Turn off marker settings window - Premiere 25.1

Hi there - just updated to 25.1 and am running into an annoying new feature that I'd like to turn off. When I place a marker on the timeline, it automatically opens a new settings window for that marker. I've looked for a setting to turn this off, but am having no luck so far. I don't always need to add additional info to a marker, and so far this window pop-up is more annoying than useful. Is there any setting to turn this off that I'm just not finding? Thanks.

Hi all, first of all thank you for reporting this issue. We've gotten to the bottom of it and there was a change in Premiere Pro 25.1 that caused this if you were using a custom keyboard shortcut preset initially built off of the Final Cut Pro 7 preset.

We've fixed that now in Premiere Pro Beta v25.3 (build 026 or later), and so the fix is expected to be released with version 25.3. The fix prevents the issue from happening, but won't repair your current preset. If your current preset is affected you should either map "Add Marker" to a different key as discussed by some in this thread, or make a new keyboard shortcut preset in version 25.3.

I have the same issue with Premiere 25.1 on Mac. Simply pressing M adds a marker but also brings up the additional info box every time, which really interrupts my editing process. I changed the shortcut to Command + M and that works like normal (even if annoying), so it must be a bug.

Good to know. I switched the Add Marker Hot Key to "X" instead of "M" and it seems to work. Apparently, it hates "M."

I am a video teacher, and we are having the same problem, too. This never used to happen until this update. I have literally used "M" for markers for years and never had the dialog box open when the initial marker was placed. It doesn't seem to do it if the clip is highlighted, AND you hit M while the clip is playing. If the clip is not playing and I hit "M" it opens up the dialog box. I hate this so much, and it needs to be fixed.

Hi @Siah_Clark – how are you adding the marker? What you're describing is not a new feature, there is no change in Premiere Pro 25.1 about adding a marker always opening the Edit Marker dialog.

The default keyboard shortcut is "M" which will add the marker, then if you press "M" again it will open the Edit Marker dialog. Is it possible the keyboard or input device you're using is hitting "M" twice?

Hi Matt, it's not the device; I just tested the same keyboard after unplugging and replugging, as well as testing a different keyboard. Still happening. I am pressing M once to add a marker, not twice.

@Siah_Clark Thanks for letting me know. Are you on Windows or Mac? And, are you using a custom keyboard shortcut preset? If so I'm curious if you try switching back to the "Adobe Premiere Pro Default", does it still happen?
