Unsupported format or damaged file - All Files

Premiere Pro 2025 Build 61

I am coming to you after a few hours of fighting with this. I'm getting this error with all the files I've attempted to import: MOV, MP4, AVI, mp3.

  • The same file(s) import just fine on other machines.
  • A fresh copy of Premiere Pro 2025 was installed. (uninstall/reinstall)  2nd time with revo to get all extra files and registry entries.  Reboots in between.
  • Moved Files from their original location to a fresh (local desktop) folder. The original location is an internal storage drive.
  • Changed names/formats on copies of the files.
  • Early on I Installed Quicktime for the MOV files. Hoping it was just a codec issue
  • Deleted Media Cache.
  • Ran chkdsk and /scannow (hopes and prayers)
  • Used VLC to convert .mov copy to .mp4
  • Used Handbrake to convert mov/mp4 to mkv and back again.

All media imports give the same Unsupported format or damaged file error.

Any thoughts on what else I can try? I'm the tech helping out one of our Marketing users. I can follow instructions, but inside the software is a bit of the hunt-and-peck method of finding things.

Thanks in advance.

Correct answer DontPunchBabies

I ended up reimaging the machine, and everything works fine now.

Thanks to everyone that offered help.

Hi @DontPunchBabies - Can you let us know the specs of your computer and which OS you are using?

How is this system different from the others?

It'd be very interesting to know whether previous versions could import these same files.

Unknown, I'm the tech, and when the issue was reported to me, it was on the current version.  I would have expected they've been running 2025 as long as it's been out.

Confirming: Did PPro 24.x successfully import these same files?
