Question

Unusable after adding media to the timeline

I was working on a project with 2 videos in the timeline. Everything was working fine and then all of a sudden I can't click on the essential graphics sidebar. Portions of the project are not visible until I play the preview or click on the file drop down menu. I can't edit anything anymore and there is a weird static noise in my headphones when the project is open.

I opened a new project and whenever I import any media, the same issues come back. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these issues? Please I can't get any work done now.

I am on Windows 10 and I have disabled hardware acceleration, etc.

Are youusing a Studio Driver, not a Game Driver?

Which graphics driver number are you using?

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-clear-your-media-cache-in-30-seconds-in-premiere-pro-2020/m-p/11017257/thread-id/260446?page=1

If that doesn't work, try resetting the preferences:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-premiere-pro/td-p/8236158?page=1

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean install of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver)

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

Also, please help us help you:

Resetting the preferences seemed to fix the problem, but when I try to open the graphics menu the problem begins again.

Not easy to diagnose problems from a distance unless you provide us with the necessary information in a systematic fashion

What version of Premiere are you using?

Does your system meet the minimum requirements for Premiere

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html

What are your source properties and sequence settings?

Was your system working properly before?

Did you do any updates or add any hardware recently?

By any chance are any of your sources from a smartphone or screen recording?

If so, the issue may be caused by sources with a variable frame rate which can cause intermittent, unpredictable issues.

use mediainfo to determine whether your source is variable or constant frame rate

https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download

if it's variable use handbrake to convert to constant frame rate

https://handbrake.fr
and here's a tutorial on how to use handbrake

I am using version 15.4.1 (same issue when I install previous versions and have uninstalled and reinstalled)

My system exceeds the recommended system requirements.

The source and sequence settings are all default, I haven't changed them since first installing Premiere Pro a week ago.

My system was working perfectly fine before, I was editing just fine for like 3 hours prior to this issue.

No updates or hardware changes.

All sources have constant framerate.

Please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card.  No reason to not tell us.  And the same with the source properties and sequence settings.    Have you tried Peru Bob's suggestions?  As I said in my earlier post, it's unlikely we'll be able to help unless you answer the questions in a systematic fashion.
