Question

Upgraded Graphics card, now Premiere won't open

To be clear, it's not that the program crashes and shows a report. It just shows the initial load screen then....vanishes.

I've tried to reset the preferences but I've helt alt (PC user) until the cows come home and it doesn't do anything. I've uninstalled everything. Even used the CC cleaner to get rid of all programs but when I reinstall it does the same thing. Or, in this case, does nothing.

I moved from a GTX 1080 to a Radeon RX 7900 XT. That's the only thing that changed.

Thoughts?

Have you tried to completely uninstall everything that Nvidia had dumped onto your system? You see, Nvidia software that has been left on your system completely conflicts with your AMD GPU to the point where the new AMD GPU would refuse to work properly or at all (as in the GPU will deliver a display but all of its other functions would refuse to work correctly).

Hi Unseelieagent,

Did you find a solution to this? I'm in exactly the same boat. Updated drivers, re enstalled premier pro, ran the diagnostics tool. Nothing I've tried so far has fixed or highlighted the issue.

Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Thanks

I had exact same issue. You must uninstall anything nvidia from your computer if you switched to amd gpu. Chances are you still have a nvidia driver installed and it's conflicting with your new amd hardware. Once you clear all the nvidia off, everything will go back to working as normal

Have you tried updating or rolling back the Radeon driver?

Hi Unseelieagent,

Sorry about that. What NVIDIA driver is installed for the GPU? Some of the older ones are rather faulty. I am running 531.41 and I was getting a warning from the System Compatibility Report before that. Can you check and let the community know?

Thanks,
Kevin

@Kevin-Monahan

Unseelieagent  is now using an AMD card, not an NVIDIA card.

Ah, sorry I missed that detail. Thanks, Bob.

@Unseelieagent, as Bob suggested, I would recommend a clean install of the latest AMD drivers, if you have not already done so. Check Help > System Compatibility Report to see if that may expose hardware issues. There is a new diagnostics tool in Beta that may shed some light on the issue here: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/fix-premiere-pro-crash-issues.html

Thanks,
Kevin
