Using cc 2019 for a project created in cs6

Can I use a project that I created in Premiere Pro Cs6 that was shot on tape with 1440 by 1080 and open it up in premiere pro 2019 and work on it in that version. I keep on getting warnings. Can I work with it, and if I can, what will my problems be.... or should I just continue to work in the older cs6 version?

Opening projects created in an older version should work fine, so long as the platform was the same for both.

In other words, if created in CS6 on a Windows machine, and you want to open it on C2019 on a Windows machine, it will likely work.

The warning is normal when opening projects created in older versions.  PP will create a new project file and give it a new name, keeping the original project file untouched.

I really did not have to test it as knew before hand the hdv footage would not be a problem.

Tried that too. No problem the sequence will stay 1440x1080.

well, the transitions ( cross fades etc. ) have to be deleted before the export, cause it becomes one clip.. but surely someone can go to source monitor and scrub through stuff and drag it down to new timeline and have a brand new cool project to work on ?

You're right though.. nobody wants to spend time editing.. it has to be done 'magically' …

Just tried it: simple edit with cross dissolves works as expected.

You could also try copying the contents of the timeline(s) and pasting it into a new sequence(s) in a new project  if you have issues with opening the project in 2019.

luckily all the codecs that were supported with cs6 are still supported in newest versions... so the poster won't have to deal with those issues....

I personally still think the best solution is to export as intermediate ( that IS supported ) and just start fresh.

But then you lose the ability to change existing edits.

Thanks for this information. now I can use the colour correction and other features that do not exist in cs6

no, cs6 stuff is not compatible with new versions.

If you still have the stuff on cs6 export it as an intermediate ( dnxhd, prores, cineform) matching your source and timeline specs ( frame rate, resolution )… if stuff was interleaved try exporting progressive …

play the exported file in VLC to check if it looks OK.

import THAT stuff into new version(s).

That is what I thought too. But it looks like from the rest of the responses that I can open and work with all the features of PP 2019
