Question

Using HEVC video ( H265 ?) from a Samsung S23 phone

I fiddled with my S23 phone ( bad move) I set videos to HEVC High efficiency as it sounded good. ( And no I don't want to buy London bridge)

When I import them into Premier and play them, the sea waves - for example look too fast and edges look juddery.

Anyone know of a way to fix this?

I tried converting via VLC, which (per Youtube) says, easy! My version cut out the video and kept the sound.

It's annoying, I can reset the phone back to H264 which is ok, but HEVC supposedly save space.

I would try using the BlackMagic Andriod camera app (free). It works fine with my S23

Hey Rob,

Are your source files in VFR by any chance? You can try transcoding your source files using Shutter Encoder (https://adobe.ly/3VctZqU) if the source file is in VFR or if the encoding is problematic. Let us know how it goes. If you're still seeing the issues after transcoding, please share a preview of the issue. It could help us better understand the problem.

Not sure what VFR setting is. According to the phone HEVC is compressed, I managed to run as a proxy, which did seem to make a difference, though I then had to fiddle with -

Galaxy S23 has a 6.1-inch screen with a screen size (resolution): 1080px by 2340px , 360px by 780px viewport 1, and a CSS Pixel Ratio of 3.

Settings to make the aspect look right.

I have reset the phone to H264, and will try one of those clips to see how that looks. Thanks Ishan.
