VBR 2 Pass not working in export in Hardware Encoding after update

Greetings all, hope you are well and safe.

After updating to latest (14.2) firmaware on CC yesterday, I have noticed that the VBR 2 pass is not available on Hardware coding under certain presets for (example; Vimdeo or Youtube) . It reverts back to 1 Pass or I have to choose a custom settings.

Any ideas?

Thanks Ann Bens,

I just realised from the release notes by Sumeet.

Wonder if this will be implemented or maybe not needed?

That is actually the limit of all integrated hardware encoders inside of consumer CPUs and GPUs (or more specifically, the amount of dedicated graphics RAM in all of them). None of them support VBR 2-pass at this time, as they require 32 GB or more dedicated VRAM (not system RAM).

That said, some NLE software will let you set VBR 2-pass with hardware encoding, and let you export - but then, you will always be rudely greeted with an error message stating "encoding failed" (or words to that effect), leaving you with no output file whatsoever. Adobe wisely will default that setting to "software encoding" when you select VBR 2-pass.
