Video lagging during playback

Hi there,

The playback during editing is so slow and choppy that it's impossible to use.

My specs are:

Processor: Intel(R) Core (TM) i7 - 7500 CPU @ 2.70GHz  2.9 GHz

RAM: 16.0 GB

If my machine is not robust enough, is there anything I can do to still make it possible to do the editing. I have reduced my resolution to 1/4 and have allocated 5GB of RAM to Premiere Pro, but it hasn't made a difference.

Thanks,
Kelly

I am using CC 2017. I am editing footage from a Cannon DSLR; I believe the

codec is MPEG-4 Part 10 / AVC / H.264, but I am not sure how to check. I

have done literally nothing but load the clip to my timeline. I was playing

it back to find where I needed to do a cut, but it's lagging so much I

can't. This is my first time using Premiere on this machine.
