Video renders Blank

Dear all

I have used video from an ipad, the video looks fine in the preview, when i export, i have the audio but a blank screen.

After much co piloting it suggested the problem may be the source video and a variable frame rate. Dose anyone have any idea?  I am in the process of converting the video to CFR with handbrake, I lost a whole day yesterday thinking I could resolve this 🙄

Any ideas?

@Joëlle Bh Hi, I have now discovered the problem. The video was synched up to an audio recording of the event in question captured by a sound recorder. In my edit, I removed this audio track and it has now published fine.  I am now washing the video through handbrake and will resynch with my audio. Hopefully I will now get the file I originally intended.  Can anyone suggest a work around for the future?  Might this be useful for https://community.adobe.com/members/arvind-sridhar-2204922.

    Thank you for your help

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the issue. Is this happening with any specific media, or all media from iPad? Have you tried them in a new project? If it’s happening across multiple media & projects, please share a download link to a sample media file with us. It will help diagnose it properly.

    Thanks,

Can you share your sequence and export settings?

Thank you and also thank you @Joëlle Bh . Does this help?  I also find that when I go back to the edit page, the video is blank. if eye click the eye and then click again the preview comes back, is this normal?  I do not seem to remember this ever happening before

    Hi,

Yes, this is a fairly common issue with footage from iOS devices. iPads often record using variable frame rate (VFR) and sometimes HEVC + HDR, which can preview correctly but fail during export because the renderer can’t interpret timing or color metadata consistently.

You’re already on the right track converting to constant frame rate (CFR), that alone resolves many cases. If it still exports with audio only, try these additional checks:

    Things to verify

    • Disable hardware acceleration and export using software encoding.

    • Match the sequence settings to the clip’s native resolution and frame rate.

    • Clear media cache and render files.

    • Make sure the clip isn’t HDR if your sequence is SDR (interpret footage if needed).

    If conversion is needed
Transcode to an edit-friendly codec instead of just CFR:

    • ProRes or DNxHR (best)

    • or H.264 with CFR + Rec.709 color

    That eliminates most decode/render conflicts.

    If you can share:
    • source clip specs
    • sequence settings
    • export settings

we can pinpoint the exact cause.

    Hope this helps.
