Way to import with set handle length?

I often have projects with clips that have a standard handle length.  I would like to batch import the clips where the handles are marked automatically.  Right now, I am manually counting out the handle frames, adding a marker at head and tail and then using the trim tool with snapping.  Obviously, this is time consuming and prone to error.  Anyone have any tips?

I am trying to understand your workflow:

A handle is the amount of extra material that precedes and follows the true content of the clip,  are you working with something like animation source files?

Marked how? With in and out points? With Markers?

Meaning you place the complete clip on to the timeline, then trim the clip head and tail?

These are visual effects shots delivered from our clients, so similar idea to animation source files.

Yes, a handle is something to be trimmed off head and tail. It's typical in work like this to have a standard length handle for the clips.

I am just using markers, which I am usually adding while previewing in the source monitor. I then place the clip above the reference material (which would show the shot in context).

There are other scenarios where you would have a clip and you would be given an arbitrary frame range and it would be nice to manually enter this in some kind of a field.  In this kind of work, the edit might be adjusted and you would need to update that based on a frame range that would just be described as a numeric frame range.

Hope that clears up your questions.

If it is a "standard"  in your workflow..why dont you make any/all deliverables from your clients have a standard amount of frames as handles.  eg 50 frames head and tail....and a standard for the synch frame cue ( timecode XXXXXX)

Out of curiosity...why do you do this?
