Question

Way to update transcript with edits made to its generated captions?

Wondering if there is a way to update a video's transcript with word edits made directly to its captions once they've been generated.  I find it easier visually to proofread for needed edits as the captions appear in the program monitor + simultaneously make any necessary splicing/merging/timecode adjustments for each caption's text block.

Is there a way to do this, or perhaps a good alternative that I'm not aware of?

You can try exporting the captions as an SRT, and then converting them to a Transcript (.txt) file with this website:
https://en.editingtools.io/subtitles/.

After that, re-import it through the Transcript tab of the Text window.

Here’s how to do it:

  • In the Text window, click the 3 dots at the top right.
  • Choose Import > Import Corrected Transcript (txt).

This will allow you to update the transcript based on the edits you've made to the captions.

Can you share a screenshot of your entire application window? This will help us get a better sense of the issue and suggest the best solution for you.

Screenshot 1:

transcript and captions have been generated so I can see subtitles in program monitor, captions tab, and timeline. When working in the captions tab, I can make any [TEXT] edits needed while simultaneously checking for any bad caption splicing/timing as I go - a task that I presume I can't do until captions are generated.

Screenshot 2:

After making my [TEXT] edits in captions tab, text in the transcript window doesn't change accordingly and must be updated manually.

Is there a way to retranscribe based on my caption edits? Or is this Premiere workflow process strictly generate transcript >> proofread for necessary text edits >> generate captions >> proofread captions for splicing and timing?

If at all possible, I want to consolidate the two steps in bold above. My clients' videos are often very long - running through an hour-long sequence twice (for text and then caption timecode edits) to insure that both transcript and subtitles are clean isn't particularly streamline.
