When an audio clip is loaded in the source monitor, its video resolution on an external monitor (via a blackmagic decklink 4k extreme) switches to 1080/25p, while my timeline is 1080/50i. can this be avoided?

When an audio clip is loaded in the source monitor, its video resolution on an external monitor (via a blackmagic decklink 4k extreme in my case) switches to 1080/25p, while my timeline is 1080/50i.
Could this be avoided? It creates constant switches on the external monitor while editing. I have look around but haven’t found a solution.
I thought I remembered that Blackmagic could lock the output to a fixed resolution, but it might be a false memory, as I haven’t found it anywhere!

Can something be done on Premiere side?

On Windows there are more options in the Control panel > Hardware and Sound. They have similar settings on Mac as well. In Premiere there should be something in Edit > Preferences > Playback as well. Look for Transmit Device Playback and click on Settings.

I have the drivers installed but no card at the moment so i cannot give any precise details...

but I spoke to Blackmagic and they say they can’t lock an output resolution, they let the software control the output, so not a viable solution down the Blackmagic path.

O.k, can you go the the timeline were you see this and go to Sequence > Sequence Settings and post a screen dump of the Sequence Settings dialog here?

is there any chance Adobe might look into this and give us the option to lock the output of video card to a set resolution?

In the project window under the New Item button (or from a right-click), you can generate a ‘Black Video’ and put it over the .wav, see if that helps. Or even put one of your clips above it, with Opacity @ 0, and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, however that does not help, as the problem is when the audio is loaded on the source monitor.
I would have to reexport the audio as video, which doesn’t make sense in my workflow.

I spoke to Blackmagic and they say that they cannot replicate the issue with the Decklink and Da Vinci, so it might be Premiere related?

Because the external monitor (a Sony LMD-2341W connected via SDI in my case) has to resync the picture to switch from progressive to interlaced. When hopping back and forth from timeline to source monitor, you have to wait a few seconds for the monitor to resync. In the long run, it gets a bit annoying.
