Which is the better 3K Workflow?

Our team has shot footage in 3K.

I have to deliver a 1080 render for TV.
( I have already made proxies in 1080 for faster editing)

 

1. Which of these 2 options is the better workflow?

A) Edit in a 3K sequence and render to 1080?

B) Edit in a 1080 sequence and scale/frame 3K footage inside of the sequence.

     The advantage of this would be that a lot of pictures have better resolutions on 1080 when

      scaled up to fit the frame. Also if I choose this how will I know that the 1080 sequence has

      the right settings according to the footage. (It's shot on an ARRI)

My post department makes proxies in the same resolution as our source footage (at a much lower bitrate) and we edit in a sequence that matches our largest output format (aka: if 1080 is the max we're going to export, we edit in 1080). This way we can scale footage that is greater than 1080 without quality loss and still get the benefit of editing with proxies.

So how would I make sure that my 1080 sequence has the right settings according to the 3K footage?

No such thing as "right settings." Only "settings that work for you in your particular circumstance." 

 

Personally, we base our sequence settings on what our final output is going to be. If we're going to output 1920 x 1080 square pixels, we make our sequence 1920 x 1080 square pixels.
