Question

Why are the colour wheels in Lumetry so much less responsive than the basic correction?

I am grading SLOG3 UHD XAVC-HS in 10 bit, which is quite a "heavy" codec (HEVC), although it plays back MUCH besser in FCPx than in Premiere. (I am using a Macbook Pro M2 Max with 32 Gb Ram).

The dials in the "basic correction" tab are WAY more responsive than the "colour wheels" in the "Match" tab. Why is that? Do the "basic" corrections have a better hardware accelleration? I would prefert the colour wheels as they work better with a hardware controller but they are sooo slow.

Holding shift while moving the + makes it go quicker.

I always thought it was a sign to move the wheel less 🙂

Which controller? As many have user options for how quickly they respond. For instance, my Tangent Elements and Ripple controls allow control responsiveness to be set differently for every Premiere control mapped.

I've got an alternate mapping that puts the outer trackballs in "mouse emulation mode" for instance. The left one is set for fast movement, the right one for micromovement.

My knobs settings are much more aggressive with say setting contrast or highlights than when using the same knob for audio mixing.

I dont mean how sensitive the controller is. You can choose that in settings. I mean how responsive the dials in the lumetri panels are. No matter if you use a hardware controller or just the mouse. Basic correction works alsmost in realtime for me. I turn the dial and immediately see the result. The dials in the "colour wheels" panel react with a latency and I can see the result only in steps.. it looks ab bit like dropped frames in video playback. I think they are not very well hardware accellerated..

Oh ... that's intriguing.

My Elements panel isn't getting hit with that, nor my Ripple. The controls all work at the same speed, which is ... nicely ... as I turn or adjust the control.

Huh.
