Question

Why every time that a project is opened PR is Relinking Media ?

I’m encountering an issue where every time I open a project in Premiere Pro, it displays the message “Relinking Media.” This problem persists regardless of whether I change the project’s path or name.

I’ve tried closing the project and reopening it directly, but the issue persists. Occasionally, I need to re-open the project to make corrections for a client, and I have to wait for the “Media loading” notification to clear before I can export the rushes without encountering the same issue.

I believe this is not a deliberate action by the PR team, and I would appreciate any explanation or solution to this problem.

    Hi Patrick,

Thanks for writing in. Can you tell us more about the system and media you are working with? Is the media on a network drive, a slower USB drive, or on Dropbox? Let me know. Please also delete the media cache by pressing Shift key at launch and deleting all cache from the Reset Options dialog box. That might help you. Keep in mind that Even small changes like renaming a folder, drive, or file location can cause Premiere to check and relink media on open.

As a quick test, try opening the project, then use “Save As” to create a new project file and reopen that version. If the issue stops, it may have been related to project references.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Hi thank you for your comment.
But I've tried all of that and still, any project that is re-opened will activate the relinking media.

I only work offline, local documents and never change the file name or document.
