Why is Premier CS6 work no faster on my Shiny new Threadripper 3960x system then it did with crap Laptop

Ok I now have a shiny new custom workstation with

  • Processor
    AMD Threadripper 3960x

          3.8 to 4.5 mhz - 24 core - 48 thread - 128 mb cache

  • Motherboard
Asus TRX40 - ROG Zeneth Extreme II

  • RAM
64 GB Corsair Vengence 3200 mhz Ram

  • GPU/GRAPHICS
NVIDA Palit Geforce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB

  • OPERATING SYSTEM / SOFTWARE DRIVE
    1TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 520 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 5000MB/R, 4400MB/W)

  • PROJECTS / FILES and SCRATCH DRIVE
    1TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 520 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 5000MB/R, 4400MB/W)

  • LONGER TERM STORAGE DRIVE
    4TB SEAGATE IRONWOLF PRO 3.5", 7200 RPM 128MB CACHE
  • PROCESSOR COOLER

CoolerMaster MasterLiquid ML360 RGB TR4 High Performance Liquid Cooler

This should be doing things like encoding like Speedy Gonzalis with a Acme rocket up his butt but Premier and encoder CS6 seems to encoding not much faster then the old hard drive stuffed up 2.2ghz 8 gb I3 laptop

Anyone know why or how to get it to speed up given this new system is way better and costs a mint?

I have a laptop ( fairly new intermediate 'gaming' thing) and a 6 year old custom desktop ( for editing only).

    I have the cs6 creative suite ( boxed ).

With win 10 I can't run speedgrade or after effects. It just won't run.

But audition, photoshop and prem Pro work OK to just mess around with dropping stuff into timeline to see dailies or something like that. Just kid stuff.

I use Resolve 15 now instead, for editing, and keep psd and audition for that stuff.

    Hello Spikey:

There's a wealth of knowledge here in the Adobe Support Community, especially when it comes to optimzing system performace.  Please keep in mind that most of us volunteer our time and that a little courtesy goes a long way.

    Take care,

Thanks... So is this just an older software issue?

Yes it is an old software issue. CS6 came out in 2012.  You are using a 7-8 year newer processor.  In 2012 CPUs only had 2 to 4 Processing cores on average.  The software has no idea how to utilize all of that horsepower your new processor has.

Heck the 2018 version of Adobe CC didn't utilize Multi-Threading nearly as well as the 2020 version does.  They keep making strides in improving it with every update.

Because you're using really old software on a new system. Why is it shocking that 8-year-old code is not optimized for a Threadripper? Adobe regularly updates Premiere to take advantage of newer hardware; download a trial of CC19 and then compare apples to apples.
