Why is premiere lagging every time I switch between workspaces?

Every time I switch workspaces in Premiere (version 26.2.2 Build 3), my Mac pinwheels. I don’t understand what it could be since the only change is that I am using a better computer. I’m on an M5 Max with 128GB of RAM and I only have a handful of safari tabs open. What am I missing here?

A lag when switching workspaces can point to a corrupt preferences file or a permissions issue with your Documents folder.

Reset preferences

Launch Premiere Pro and hold down Option (macOS) or Alt (Windows).
In the Reset Options dialog, check Reset App Preferences.
Select OK.

Documents folder

To give Premiere Pro access to your Documents folder in macOS:

Quit Premiere Pro.
Open the Apple menu > System Settings.
Select Privacy & Security.
Select Files and Folders.
Find Adobe Premiere Pro, or the specific version, such as Adobe Premiere Pro 2026.
Expand it and enable Documents Folder.
Reopen Premiere Pro.

If neither of these resolves the issue, confirm whether the same behavior occurs in a brand new project file.
