Shouldn’t the center be the origin point? It’s weird when the top left is the origin point, especially considering how you would need to move an images center to the top left to even have it there correctly.
You refer to an image, and it is not clear what type of item you have.
For plain images (e.g. jpg) or video, in Effect Controls, there is a Motion section with one anchor points, which is in the center by default. (It is more complicated than that.)
For graphics/text, there is also a Vector Motion section with an Anchor Point, and a Shape section for each graphic shape layer and a Text section for each Text layer. Within each of those shape/text sections is a Transform section with an Anchor Point.
The default position for paragraph text is upper left; for point text bottom left. (There is actually some kind of adjustment for the bottom edge of text or something; it is not, for example, the bounding box of the text.)
This issue with text is why text often does not scale/zoom as expected.
