Why might my Export be an over-saturated riot of colour?

Hello!

In the program window, my video looks like this...

But in the preview windown for my Export (and indeed once I have actually exported my video), it looks like this - much more saturated, much more contrast:

I haven't applied any effects to my video to make it like this.

My setings are below (although whatever settings I choose, I still get the same over-saturated, hi-contrast preview):

What do people might be causing this?

Thank you!

Matt

Welcome to late 2023, our friend!

This is Basice Color Management 101 ... the clip color space, timeline (sequence) color space, and export color space must all be the same for exports to work as expected.

I would guess your clip is probably HLG, an HDR form. And your timeline and export are probably both Rec.709, an SDR form.

Either use the Modify/Interpret Footage Override-To option on the clip to set it to Rec.709, or ... change the sequence CM to HLG, and use an export preset that says HLG in the preset name.

SDR is still a ton easier to do at this time.

Thank you - yes, it turns out I'm using a mixture of HDR and SDR clips recorded on smartphones of various vintages, on an SDR timeline! Appreciate the explanation.
