Question

Why mono audio clip, on mono audio track, is outputting sound to both speakers?

When I convert a stereo audio track into 2 mono channels, and then I put that track onto one mono Audio Track, why the sound is being output to both channels and both speakers?

Shouldn't it output to one channel only?

Related, when I create a mono audio track onto my Timeline, which channel/speaker is it, left or right?

Hi zopfan,

how did you map the audio tracks when you created your sequence? There is a Track tab when you do so that needs to be checked. There you will find the Pan/Balance column where you can manage the output of audio channels for the sequence.

Thanks for your replies (of every one who replied here).

I just drag the audio track from Project Panel to Audio (stereo or mono as the case may be) tracks on time line. I don't know about mapping. Or I don't do any mapping.

Although if you say about 'Modify Clip' dialogue, in which I convert my 1 stereo track to 2 mono tracks, then that's been explained in very detail in my 2-3 replies given above.

I recommend you try to create a new sequence from the top menu File > New > Sequence, or Ctr + N. You will get a window where you have 4 tabs: check the third tab named Tracks and in the Audio section set the type of tracks to Mono and the Pan/Balance to Left or Right alternating, so track 1 assign it to Left, 2 to right, 3 to Left, etc. Then you do your editing, drag and drop if you want from Project Panel to Audio Tracks in Sequence.
