Question

Why my audio volume is way higher in AE than in Pr?

I have some footage with audio that plays quietly in Premiere (I have to raise my Mac volume at ~90% to hear comfortably), but then when I replace parts of it with AE compositions, the very same clips play very loudly in AE. Due to this, I'm hurting my ears quite a lot because I forget to lower the volume when I switch to AE.

I want to point out that there are no effects applied to the audio of the clips, nor to the tracks in the Audio Track Mixer in Premiere.

Can someone help me understand what is wrong and how to avoid it?

Does the audio play louder in the Footage panel in After Effects, or just in the composition?

Do you mean in the individual layer tab? It plays at the same volume both as a layer, and in the containing composition.
