Question

Why remove Dust & Scratches Without an in app Alternative???

So I'm finding out that Dust & Scratches is removed. This is an effect I use regularly because I have an hotspot on my lens/camera. I'm using a micro 4/3 camera (BMPCC 4K) and need assitance with finding an alternative. Most suggestions include using AE (an extremely cumbersome workflow). Is there anything within Premiere Pro that would be equivalent to Dust & Scratches??

I was amazed how few users used dust & scratches to fix hot/dead pixels or spots on a sensor. There weren't many of us!

So yea, the "replacement" is  .... drumroll .... Guassian Blur.

Which can, for some things and spots, be mostly sorta useful.

As to the Ae process, you can, with some practice and study, get a process down to a very quick applied action. The problem of course is for a sensor spot or dead/hot pixel, that needs correction for the whole clip or probably mulitple clips ... is getting an Ae process that is actually practical.

My best suggestion is try Digital Anarchy, Knights of the Editing Table, and aescripts.com ... the first two sell plugins, the third is an amazing compendium site of tons of 3rd party plugins/effects for use in pro video apps.

Thanks for this. I am using Gaussian Blur for the time being. I will checkout your suggestions!

Gaussian Blur, like any effect, can be applied in a masked spot, so it's only affecting a tiny part of the image. But ... it isn't quite as spiffy for some things as the controls of the Dust & Scratches effect.

So yea, check out the other options.
