Working with Productions - Clip Markers

I recently started working on a show and this is my first time using Productions.  We WILL have shared storage between the three editors but until that is up and running, I want to be able to get myself and one of the other editors logging footage.  

 

At this point, nothing will be done in a sequence so most of the work will be done at the clip level with adding markers, etc.  I have all of the media in a sinlge project within the Production and I have made merged clips syncing the camera and sound.  These are the clips we will use for editing.  We also have a mirrored drive for both computers and are sharing the Production via Dropbox.

 

My instinct is to make projects, within the Production for each day of shooting and each editor can add clip markers for the day they are working on.  

 

Does this workflow make sense?  I'm not even sure if I am explaining this right.  I just want to get things moving until the shared storage is working.

    I am starting a show in almost the exact same way as the author of this post, that is, I am working with Productions with a team and we WILL have shared storage but in the meantime, we have mirrored drives and we need to get started with screening and logging. Does anyone know what happens with decentralized productions and clip markers? That is, if I add markers to a clip and another editors adds markers to the same clip, do those markers merge once we start sharing sequences that contain the marked-up clips?

    I'm realizing this thread was from 2022, but I'd love to hear any insights or advice about clip markers in Productions, and how those track and update as sequences are shared. Also, how would we consolidate all markers from all collaborators in order to transition to shared storage. Thanks!

      Yes, that sounds very workable. Their documentation suggests we think of using projects to store assets (of whatever type) in the way we used bins in standalone.

       

      So setting a subfolder path for the project is the first organizational step.

       

      Then within each sub, either additional subs or project files.

       

      So a sublfolder tree of media, with project files within them 'housing' the media by say day of shooting.

       

      And a subfolder tree of say Eps or Stringouts or whatever.

       

      And on and on ...

      Just to wrap my head around this, if I make a project for Day 1 and bring the media from the day in, how do I make sure any clip level markers will show up in other projects for other editors?  From what I've read, it seems like you need to share sequences to make Productions work they way it's intended. 

       

      I've been wroking off of a PDF fro mthe Editor's Guild to figure this our but if you can guide me to another place for more info that would help.

      I've seen Karl Soule give presentations where he was putting markers in the Source monitor that editors were getting then when they dropped the clips on sequences as 'normal' clip markers. I've actually not tried that myself, I just realized ... !
