Question

Workspaces disappearing at will

Although I'm not sure how to get into this discussion, I've got a problem with Workspaces using Premiere Pro CC at a college where I'm studying. The workspaces seem to jump around and disappear at will and I've no idea how to arrange them so I can carry on editing in peace. The main thing at the moment is my 'Library' of imported footage which vanishes leaving the Media Browser full of all the students email addresses and folders (including mine) but I just can't locate the normal box/pod with the files I need. If anyone can help, let them be blessed, meanwhile I'll just keep trying...

It sounds like many people are using the same computer on their projects. Please provide more information so that other users in the forum can help you:

    1. What OS are you running? What version of Premiere Pro?

    2. Reset the workspaces: Select Window > Workspaces > Reset to Saved Layout from the main menu.

    3. Select Window > Workspaces > Import Workspace from Projects. There should be no check mark next to that menu item.

    4. Restart Premiere Pro while holding down Shift + Alt (Windows) or Shift + Option (macOS).

Thanks, both of you. Unfortunately I'm not at college with access to the relevant Mac for a few days, so can't answer the question about the OS. We are using Premiere Pro CC.

Before I left for half term I found that I had unchecked the Project window, so that solved the main problem which was causing me so much frustration. But I'm still bemused by how all the windows work together, and Saved Layout didn't seem to do what I wanted. No doubt it's because I'm such a novice with Adobe. It feels as if I'm at the controls of a huge aircraft rather than my previous editing vehicle which was Serif Movie Plus (and even that had me panicking!).

Caroline: I would recommend asking someone at your school (IT admin?) for more help. Your computer (lab) setup may be somewhat unique, and the installed versions may play a role in this issue as well. For example, as a student you may not have access to the document folders contain the workspace folders. Maybe one of them is corrupted or has to be deleted so that a fresh restart of Premiere Pro will rebuild them. Also, whenever someone else opens a project, custom workspace settings may be coming along for the ride, which throws things off for other students sharing the same machine.
