Question

XML export not available? removed?

I need to export a timeline in xml format to be used on Davinci Resolve, but it doesn’t come up in the export > format drop down menu.

I haven’t applied any effects.

I only changed the sequence settings, adjusted the motion settings (clip size and orientation), made cuts, and color labeled some clips.

As far as I am aware, the availability of xml is context dependant.
Can someone give some troubleshooting tips?

    As @Ann Bens said, it’s at the bottom of the Export menu. You might also try the new, more modern timeline exchange format, Export > OpenTimelineIO.

    While not an entirely new format, it has recently begun to be implemented in editing tools for timeline interchange. Worth a try if XML isn’t working as you expect.

    @ScottSimmons,

    I have not played with the OTIO, but saw a reference where it did not help a particular user’s situation. Is there a reference that can help educate me?

    I haven't seen any resources, but there are no export settings when exporting an OTIO from Premiere. It’s a relatively new protocol across the editing tools, so as new versions and software updates come out, new protocols are often enabled within that format. In a perfect world, OTIO gets implemented across all the editing apps, and it becomes a much more modern interchange format and we can forget about XML, perhaps someday.

    Since it's built into both of them, it's easy to try. The other option would be an AAF to Resolve if XML isn't working.
