Zoom In/Out doesn't work with Effects Panel selected

Hello, I just updated to Premiere Pro 2026, and now whenever I add a preset to a clip, the focus switches to the Program Monitor or Effects Panel. 

Because of that, I can’t zoom in or out in the timeline using + and -. Instead, it zooms the small ruler/timeline under the Program Monitor.

It’s pretty annoying to click back on the timeline every time I add a preset just to be able to zoom again, especially when I’m quickly going through a sequence adding multiple presets.

Is there any way to stop this behavior or keep the focus on the timeline?

    This feature has been removed from 2025, 2026 and beta

    At least it does not work in 25.6.4 for me.

    Works in 2024 and 2023.

    What??? I don't think that's a feature that's been removed. I think it's a bug or a mistake.

    OK call it a bug or mistake. Might have something to do with the way they changed the behavior of the Program monitor.

    There isn’t. Did that focus on the Timeline panel hold in previous versions? My experience and remembrance is that sometimes maybe it did, sometimes maybe it didn't. 

    But what you're asking for is something that has been asked a lot over the years, and that is to zoom in and zoom out to work somehow exclusively in the timeline, regardless of what panel that you are on. Way more times than not, you're wanting to zoom the timeline, not the program monitor or the source monitor.

    Thank you. In Premiere Pro 2025, I didn’t have this issue. Probably in that version, the timeline stayed selected after adding a preset. Now, after I add a preset, the Effects Panel gets selected instead.

    Yea it’s annoying. You can just hit the set keyboard short for the Timeline panel rather than grabbing the mouse, moving it and clicking.
