Audio Waveforms don't show up in nested sequences or multicams

See title. This has been an issue for as long as I can remember. I've almost switched to Davinci several times because it's so infurating.

Render audio?

Works most of the time. But then I get this sort of flicker-affect after a few minutes of editing and they all dissappear again. Render audio seems to only work once per session. I'm almost positive it has something to audio tracking within the multicam sequence, but I can't say what exactly.
