Auto Roto Malfunction in Editing

Unassigned mask cannot be moved below opacity. Prohibiting the ability to isolate the mask, enter text behind it or blur the original video underneath.

You should be able to drag the Unassigned Mask to your desired effect in the Effect Controls panel. Is this not working for you?

Also, if you have an Unassigned Mask and then add an effect to a Timeline clip, the Unassigned Mask should auto-promote (move) to the effect.
