Question

Canon MXF and XML files - Does premiere use the XMLs?

I'm shooting on Canon and it makes .MXF and .XML files. I'd like to rename and organize footage so that outside of Premiere, I can actually find things or share footage. Does Premiere use the .XML files from cameras? It doesn't seem to import them, and the .MXF files play fine without the .XMLs.

In opening some of my XML files, they all say the same thing:

CANON

(serial Number)

EOS C70

1.0.7.1

EF-S18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

or this if it's in text edit:

<?xml version="1.0"?><VideoClip xmlns="http://www.canon.com/ns/VideoClip"><Title></Title><Creator></Creator><Description></Description><Device><Manufacturer>CANON</Manufacturer><SerialNo>XXXXXXXXXX</SerialNo><ModelName>EOS C70</ModelName><FirmVersion>1.0.7.1</FirmVersion><Lens>EF-S18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS</Lens></Device><Location><Altitude></Altitude><Longitude></Longitude><Latitude></Latitude><Source></Source><PlaceName></PlaceName></Location></VideoClip>

Doesn't seem like there's any info there that differentiates one clip from another, and since Premiere doesn't import them, can I delete them?

Thanks!

I would like to know as well. I suspect not, as I have renamed my .MXF files away from the associated .XML and the behavior in Premiere Pro beta seems unchanged.

So we ditched our .XML files and it seems to be working okay. It seems like an easy thing for someone at Adobe to answer.
