Captions Workflow Improvements

I've been using the new Auto Transcriptions Captions feature for all of our programs (and since MacCaption is EOL, why not move to some Adobe magic). However, I have a lot of painpoints.

1. Please add a way to save Captions formats/layouts to apply to different projects. Right now, I have to set this up each time.

2. Add a way to integrate Speaker Nmes into the caption workflow. Right now I have to manually type in ">PERSON NAME: " before the first word, and Premiere doesn't know that's introducing the person talking. It's a clunky workaround, especially since it can differentiate speakers. A checkbox enabling "insert speaker names into captions" would be great.

3. Many times the generated script includes a word at the end of a section which belongs to the next person's section. There's not a way to click in and say, move down or merge with below and there should. In face, the merge and split don't always work, and I wish they did—maybe they would fix some of these issues.

4. Add an ALL CAPS button to transform all words to uppercase.

@DaveChap,

Great suggestions and focus on problem areas.

1 - Sharing Caption Track Styles

There have been various requests to improve the handling of track styles across projects. See this post for discussion:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/premiere-pro-15-edit-rename-delete-captions-master-style/m-p/13493028#M449588

If you have multiple styles used often, I would use the export/import multiple styles workaround.

2 - Add options for using transcript Speaker in the captions track.

Upvote this feature request in the box at the top of the thread. I am linking to my review of the topic and a list of related requests.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-ideas/beta-add-speaker-names-and-2-lines-option-to-captions-from-transcription/idc-p/13998726#M10600

3 - Last word included in speaker A transcript section is actually speaker B

I would report an example as a bug and offer to provide clips and project file to staff. Generally, split and merge work correctly for me. Position cursor at the beginning of the word. Split creates a one word transcript section. Drag-select that word and at least part of the next section and Merge.

Merge changed to selection-based a version or so back.

4 - Faux font options do not provide an actual conversion of text, and are limited.

See my post in your thread:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/premiere-captions-lower-case-to-upper-case-all-caps/m-p/14036850#M473751

This would be a feature request. I hope I am missing something, and it is actually available in regular text if not captions.
