ia mask tool

Hi, I select the object, set it as an opacity mask, track its path, and duplicate the video. I delete the mask from the video underneath. The video above still has the mask. I've tried every parameter—inverting, adding or removing, blending mode, etc.—but the object is always visible. Am I missing something?
