Project manager does not with transcode

The project manager still does not work as exepected with consolidate and transcode.

When reporters create a TV item on a remote location, we like to send them the Premiere project in compact size to the studio.

They work with a mix of Sony AVCHD (stereo MTS) files and mulltichannel MXF files.

When they want to export a timeline and transcode everything to h264 with the manager it's not allowed.

(original clips a copied/created)

In this way they can't reduce project size.

 

steps to repro

setup a HD timeline with some MXF and AVCHD clips.

Open Premiere Manager and setup consolidate and transcode

If you use a preset which does not match the timeline, you get the message as attached.

(Premiere only copies the original clips)

For the Consolidate and Transcode settings, are you using Source: Sequence? If so, then all clips must match the Sequence parameters. If they do not, you will receive this error.

 

For the greatest level of support to transcode your clips, you want to set Source: Individual Clips. This setting will attempt to match all parameters of your clips, but you also need to make sure your preset is set to Match Source and supports all parameters of your clips (Frame Size, Frame Rate, Audio channels, etc.)

 

Also note that our H.264 exporter is limited in the number of audio channels that it currently supports (Mono, Stereo and 5.1), so if you have any clips with different audio channelization, it will not be able to transcode those clips with an H.264 preset. Our QuickTime exporter currently has the greatest level of Audio channel support, so you may want to consider a QuickTime preset for greater Audio channel support.

Hi Trent,

is it possible to export with a preset which can encode h264 for video and handle the audio as seperate files?

With all presets the total size of the project folder increases in size after the manager is done.

Unfortunately, Consolidate and Transcode does not currently have support for that, as it requires matching audio channels. If you had originally used media that was video-only and audio-only, then that could work, but I know that is not much of a workaround.

 

Would Apple ProRes 422 Proxy Codec possibly work for you? That is the closest Codec I can think of that creates smaller file size, easy to edit and has best audio channel support.
