iPhone 16 4k or cinematic videos not compatible with Premiere Rush

Hi,

I just got the new IPhone 16 and I started filming 4k videos or cinematic videos. Once I upload them to Premiere Rush it shows Media import error. It says unsupported media type. 1 of 1 media could not be imported.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Correct answer BlackAndBlue

I simply turned off Spatial Audio and that seemed to resolve it...even with 4K resolutions.
Go to settings/camera and tap on Record Sound and switch from Spatial Audio to Stereo.

same here - neither cinematic nor the regular video from my iPhone 16 won't upload to the app. Same as some of other people here I use the app version to edit quick videos, mostly for TikTok and instagram. Is there any timeline for fixing this issue? Do I have to cancel subscription and go to CapCut :(?

Hello @Collin_Boring6828,

As a test, try Project Violet to see if it works for you. If so, there is something up with the newer formats and Rush. Let me know so I can tell the team.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello,

I'm facing the same issue as everyone on here using the Adobe rush app on the iPhone. The question is when will you be able to fix the issue at hand so that we users can rely on your apps and not any other app?

Thank you

I let the team know, @Ihab Khairy - Try out Project Violet to see if it works for you. If so, there is something up with the newer formats and Rush.

Thanks,
Kevin

C'mon, Adobe. I live down the stree from your HQ. I even did the photos for the mouse pads the San Jose Redevelopment Agency provided to all employees when your HQ buildings opened in Downtown SJ.  I have used Premiere Rush on iPad for making short videos I shot with my ProMax 13. Upgraded to the ProMax 16 a few weeks ago, and now can only use iMovie (not as robust) to put together videos on the iPad.  Pleaese, please get with the program and upgrade the software so that I can go back to easily editing videos in the app that I (used) to love.

Sorry for the frustration, @Dana Grover. Have you checked out Project Violet yet? I believe it works with the new iPhone.

Thanks,

Kevin

Same problem. Yesterday I bought a iPhone 16 pro to taste joyful filming  experience after that I recorded the video with 4K 120 FPS and  2.8K 60 FPS . Then import to Premiere rush but failed so I try with normal one 4K 60 FPS still failed. Please fix soon as possible.Thank you

Hi @Kevin Doofenshmirtz 8964,

Please try importing the footage into Project Violet, an experimental iOS app that Adobe Research is developing. This mobile editing tool supports all the new formats and does about everything that Rush does. Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for your suggestion Kevin, I try it but still prefer to use rush cuz project violet can't not use adobe creative clouds fonts and no title style choose. However one think I like this app because so many transition affect to select.

Same issue here on iPhone 16 Pro, I haven't been able to edit any videos shot on this phone. I really hope this will be addressed soon, it is really concerning for the future health of the software that it still does not support this very popular phone over a month after its release.

Have uploaded a sample video to Dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/y2bcuw3jlbz7br4rqoa31/Video-26-10-2024-09-37-41.mov?rlkey=t0lkyips5l5pz5h9lzvyyh5w4&st=1n31nu6m&dl=0

Thanks for the sample file, @Oisin Prendiville. I have forwarded your media file to the product team. I will report back on their findings.

As a test, you might try importing the footage into Project Violet, an experimental iOS app that Adobe Research is developing. Let me know the results, and I will pass the news along to the team as to the results. Sorry for the hassle.

Thanks,
Kevin

Fantastic thank you! It works well there and I believe I should be able to use Violet instead of Rush now, delighted to see that project in development.

One month later is there still no solution to this?

im not even using the cinematic mode, just the standard video and it's not working from the iPhone pro max

ill cancel the subscription to Rush if there's not plan to support the phone footage as pointless to have it now I've changed phones!

Hi @Anthony340518027yc9,

HDR and Cinematic Mode are not supported. The standard video setting should work fine, though. On your iPhone, choose Settings > Camera > Record Video, and disable HDR Video and Spatial Audio. Let me know if you have any trouble with it.

Thanks,
Kevin

I, too, have this problem with all video types from the iPhone 16. I don't have a solution, but I see that others are also having this problem and wanted to voice that I, too, see the issue for any video I try to upload into Rush.

So my husband found a work around for importing iphone 16 4k videos into adobe rush using the adobe media encoder - if you upload your videos via icloud drive, run them through media encoder w/ the proper format, then export unmodified original video in your iphotos with the formatted one in the icloud drive and it'll let you import to rush. It's definitely a lot of steps but I was able to edit my footage by doing this.

HOPE IT HELPS IN ANY WAY!

Thanks for sharing your workaround, @Allison34119006ob21. Much appreciated! Transcoding the video using Adobe Media Encoder to a supported format, like H.264 is a good idea. I hope the team can provide support for this format soon, as it seems to be very popular. It would be nice to work with this format without having to transcode it.

Take Care,
Kevin
