Question

Substance 3D Stager render causes freeze

Hello,

Last week, 2 of my machines that do rendering were working fine.

Today, when I open a project and try to render, the software acts like it's starting to render, but then just sits and does nothing. If I try to cancel the render, it shows cancelled, and I can click different things in the application, but none of them actually do anything, including close/exit. The application has to be forced closed.

I have tried starting a new image from scratch, and rendering just a simple sphere, but this also causes the freeze.

I have tried rendering with GPU as well as CPU which make no difference.

I have tried saving the render locally, as well as to a file server.

I have tried rolling back to a slightly older version of Stager with no luck.

I started a chat with Adobe for support, and I was told to clear my temp files before the support person simply left the chat. Delightful customer service (sarcasm).

For machine specs:

1 brand new HP zBook Workstation with i7-13850HX, 32 gigs of RAM, RTX 3500 GPU, Windows 11 pro

1 Boxx custom built machine with Xeon W2255 cpu, 64 gigs of RAM, Geforce RTX2080 (3 cards), Windows 10 pro

Both machines have plenty of horsepower to render a still image, and have been working fine up until now. No Windows updates occured.

Hello @Tim27560146dq8m,

Thanks for the message.

The fact that the application suddenly change its behavior is suprising. This let me think that an update of some sort as occur somewhere.

I would have tell you to check your GPU driver, but it shouldn't affect the CPU rendering, and I would have tell you to make sure the save isn't located in a network server, but you already did.

I advise you to deactivate the additionnal GPU to make sure this isn't a source of problem.

Could you send me your log file after a crash? You'll find it in :
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe Substance 3D Painter

Let me know.

Hello Cyril,

After some further investigation, we have found that any project greater than 4 gigabytes in size causes the crash/freeze.
When we try to render different projects that are smaller, it works just fine. Is there any sort of maximum file size that Stager can handle?
