AIRHelp not auto-detecting the online version

I am having a problem having an AIRHelp document view its online counterpart. Since this is the first time I'm trying this, I'm sure it's my own error. I could definitely use some assistance if it is to be had!

When generating the AIRHelp (from RoboHelp HTML 8), I have enabled the option "Show Online Content," then specified a valid URL to a dummy Web site to test this. I have determined that the Web site is accessible with an ultra-simple test HTML page (with just a word that reads "Test"). I have uploaded the installer file for the latest document version to the root level of that Web site. For testing purposes, I have allowed full access (read, write, scripts) to the Web site.

From here I am uncertain how to proceed. Am I just to have the AIRHelp installer accessible at the site? Or do I need to install the AIRHelp document to the site location so it may be read from remote computers?

I have tried both, no no avail. Remote computers running the AIRHelp don't seem to see the online version, as a very minor text version in the online version never displays in the local iteration.

Can anyone offer any assistance?

Thank you very much in advance!

Most sincerely,

Sammy Spencer

    Hi Sammy,

To show online version of Help in AIR Help, you need to do the following things.

    1. Open the project for which you want the online version.
    2. Select AIR SSL Option, and generate browser based AIR Help. Copy the output folder to the remote website location, where you want to host the online help.
    3. Generate AIR help file with Adobe AIR application option, and also specify the remote website location in the SSL dialog. this will generate an .air file.
    4. Install this generated .air file on any client machine, which can access remote website location. when you run the installed AIR help file, you should be able to see the online version. if you get disconnected to net (for testing purpose, remove network cable of client machine), then AIR help file will switch to offline version of help.

The point here is to view online version in AIR file, you need to set up a website which has browser based AIR help or webhelp copied on that remote website location. Also you need to specify the remote website location in the AIR file while generation of .air file.

Hope this clears some doubts related to online help in AIR help file.

Praful Jain, you definitely kick butt!

Your instructions were great, and they worked! This only goes to show how effective Adobe's overall support for their products is, in having an online community like this to help fill in the gaps of technical documentation.

Thank you very much for your help!  I don't suppose you can try to help me with this issue which you had tried to help me with earlier, could you?

Take a look at the AIR articles on my site. Post back if that does not help.
