Can Search be restricted at the book level?

I have a project that consists of 8 books.  Each book contains instructions for a specific module of functonality in the whole software program I am documenting.  Is there a way for a user to search for a term within a specific book (i.e., module) only, instead of searhing across the whole help project?

Tom Johnson (idratherbewriting.com) has talked about this sort of faceted classification/search in his blog. I don't think any HAT tools are capable of doing this sort of thing (yet).

    Hi Jeff

As I said earlier, I do believe RoboHelp can in version 9 using the new Content Categories feature. What I'm currently unsure about is whether that extends to AIR Help. I know it's possible in WebHelp.

    Hi there

If you are using RoboHelp HTML version 9, there is a new feature known as "Content Categories". With this feature you define different categories that appear as a drop-down list in the navigation pane.

Sooo, I believe you could create different Tables of Contents and associate each with its own category to achieve this.

    Just thinking out loud.

    Cheers... Rick

Thanks, Rick.  Each book has its own useful TOC that the users like, but it is when they need to do a very specific search for a software function that they have to fall back on Search.

For example, if users want to see how to perform a "getDoc" software function, but specifically need to see how to do that in our Web Client, as opposed to our Desktop or Automation Clients, they can't do that easily.  Searching on "getDoc" not only returns all the "getDoc"s in all of our Clients, but also returns all the topics where it is mentioned across the board (sometimes approaching 100  hits).

I'm trying to find a way to restrict their search, for example, to a specific Client...and even in the Client book, to a specific sub-book (like "getDoc" for workflow in the Web Client).

No there isn't. The search works across the entire help file so if you want to only return content from one module, that would have to be in its own help file. BTW this is not a limitation of AIRHelp. All help outputs work the same way.
