Question

Can you use multiple TOCs in one project at different times?

I am new to RoboHelp and I have version 11. The premise is that I have inserted a map of the United States and I have placed and image map for each state to direct them to the individual state's topic I have created. But I want to customize each state's table of contents. Is that possible? If so how is it done? Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you.

    Hi Peter.

Ideally, what I would like to have happen is have a user click on a state in the map and have it be directed to a pdf file but then on the left hand side I want a list of other topics that users can view specifically for that state.

Try this, no guarantees. In addition to the hotspot linking to the PDF, create a link in the TOC to the PDF. I'm hoping that when the PDF opens it will sync with that link. Then you make sure that below that link in the TOC you have created links to the other relevant topics.

Post back to say whether or not that worked.

Can we step back and clarify what you mean by customising each state's TOC?

The image map takes the user to a topic for that state. If the project is set to keep the topics synchronised to their position in the TOC, the user will see what you have set up in that states chapter.

What is it that you want to happen that is not provided by that?

Whilst you can have multiple TOCs, only one can be specified for each Single Source Layout. If I understand your requirement correctly, you want the TOC to change depending on the area image map that is clicked. Sorry but that can't be done.

The only way to achieve this would be to have a separate RH project for each state. You could link to the state's topic in the separate project (complete with the separate TOC). The problem here is it sounds like you have content that is the same regardless of which state is selected. In this case, this approach won't work without duplicating the content in each project.

If I may borrow a line from the movie "The Fourth of July"...

    That's not entirely accurate.

There is this little feature that is known as "Content Categories". And theoretically, one might construe things such that an image map could redirect to different categories.

    Cheers... Rick

So I just want to clarify. I can use Content Categories to make this happen?
