chm output file seems to ignore the Windows Settings default file configuration

Hi all,

I'm using RoboHelp 2020.6.76.

I'm having trouble with the chm file opening under our application window. I have tried setting the "Top-Most" Window Setting when I generate the .chm, (and tried the same with it unset), and get the same result.

Also seem to have the same trouble when I change the default window size - no matter what size I choose, the window opens the same size and under our application.

It's like the chm is ignoring the settings in the Window Settings file (called "defaultsize" in the screenshot below).

 

I have spoken to our developer and he is NOT applying any rules on the application's call to the .chm file that would cause it to open underneath, or doing anything that should override my "top-most" instruction... 

 

The file used to open on top of the application as expected... we applied a couple of RoboHelp patches in the fall - could it be an introduced issue?

 

I'm stuck! Is this a known bug? Any workarounds? Any ideas welcome.

    I suppose start with checking that the (correct) window name is in the help call?  It's been at least 15 years since I had anything to do with chm files, sorry. There should be some code libraries with developer docs available in the RH installation directory, so that might help for whichever specific language your application is written in.

    Actually, I was able to fix it in RoboHelp! What ended up working is that I deleted the old RoboHelp Window Settings file that is called by the chm, and created a new one from the default..... when I recompiled the chm and redeployed it in the application, it works fine! Opens on top and the size is as I specified.

     

    The old Window Settings file must have gotten corrupted somehow.

    (That would at least prove the window settings are in the chm file, and might indicate that the problem is something to do with the call from the application.)

    Good question.... the answer is yes, when I open the chm on its own either from RH, or directly from the directory that the application accesses it, it opens to the expected size and location, and it also opens on top of whatever else is open. Any suggestions for how the call needs to be made?

    Does the chm open with the right size when you view from RH or double-click on the file in File Explorer? I checked in RH2019.12 in a test project, and both methods open the chm at the specified size (tall and skinny so it was obvious that it was picking up the window size).
