cleaning up project files

Hello,

I've been told that it is possible to clear away "junk" files from a project folder as a way of making sure only the correct files are being incorporated.

Are there any general rules regarding what files or file types can be safely cleared away? Other than the .xpj file, I'm not really sure what needs to be there and what can be cleared and replaced with a new file.

Thanks for the advice.

In addition to the original reason, I'm interested in "paring down" what files are needed as we have just begun adding our help files to our developers' souce control software (StarTeam, btw), and I'm wondering what files need to be included for an HTML project, and what files are "noise" files that don't need to be included in the source control. (???)

As Leon states, there is an unused file report - available from the Tools menu but it is not fail safe for the reasons Leon outlines.

The only "junk" you should clear away are topic files and graphics that you are ABSOLUTELY sure are no longer used. I wouldn't rely too heavily on the Unused Files Report, though.

RH uses a lot of project files to keep track of everything it needs to do, based on your instructions (intentional or not). These can range from HTM files through XML files, APJ files, etc.

Unless, of course, you're bored and you want to recreate or recover all the things you cleared away...
