We are storing our master project on a shared drive so we can all update our pieces until we get our SharePoint upgraded. Is there a better way of collaborating until then?

I hope you do not mean that you are all accessing a single project on a shared drive. Rh does now allow storing a project on a network but that is not designed to allow multiple authors to work on a project at the same time.
