Question

Conditional tags are in the wrong style

Dear All

I have recently upgraded to Robohelp 2020 from Robohelp 10 so a big jump.    Mostly I am getting my round the changes but one thing that I cannot solve is that all conditional tags are showing the text in the wrong style.  I can see that I can change the colour of tags (which I do not want to do) but not how to make it the same style as the rest of the paragraph.  They are showing up as blue and very large, whereas I want them to blend in with the rest of the topic.

I have found that there are certain words or groups of words that are also not in the right style and are randomly very large.  I can fix them one at a time which is time consuming but do'able but the tags are always large even if I create a new one.

Any ideas?  Many thanks

    There's your span definition - second from the bottom:

    span {
      5.65pt: ;
      margin-right: 6.50pt;
      margin-top: 0pt;
      margin-bottom: 0.5em;
      color: #000099;
      font-weight: normal;
      font-style: normal;
      color: #000099;
      margin-top: 0pt;
      margin-bottom: 0.5em;
      font-size: 140%;
      x-next-class: ;
      x-next-type: P;
      text-underline: none;
    }

    Oh wow!  Thank you so much.  I am so grateful.  Suddenly everything looks much better.  I still have a few issues with random large text but I will study this css more carefully (and I have taken a copy of it first).

    Thank you again.

    Whoops - always pays to do testing on conversions before committing making changes to the converted projects. Are you seeing these artifacts in the HTML5 built version or just in the Authoring view? Have you looked in your css to see if "span" is defined differently?

    This is a small part of my job and is for a legacy desk top program that we produce so I am not massively experienced in Robohelp and I am not very technical.  I do these help files for my knowledge of the subject not because I am a technical author.

     It is showing up in the final compiled version too (CHM) and interestingly (depressingly) it seems to be ignoring the tags as well I now realise.

    Where do I see the style for span in the css?  I can see lots of different styles but not one called span.

    I don't know a thing about upgrading projects, since we started with 2020, but when I tag text conditionally, the HTML looks something like this:

    <span data-condition="Product:ProjectA">my text</span>

    Does your CSS have a definition for the span element that applies big and blue properties? That was the first question that came to mind. It might look something like this:

    span {
      font-size: 2em;
      color: blue;
    }

    The second question is: does it happen regardless of the HTML element you put it in? IOW, does it go big/blue in headings as well as regular paragraphs or bullet items?

    Thanks for coming back to me Karen.  I am not very technically minded so I am not sure I am looking in the right place.  I can see my css that I use and it has a variety of styles, some of which are certainly blue and large - one in particular I use a lot which could be the one is Heading1.

    I have 2 tags in this paragraph one for the word cattle and one for the word sheep.

    The  HTML currently look like this:

    <p class="Body-Text"><a href="Inspector_Screen.htm">Inspector</a> -  if you click on the button called <span data-condition="Others:Cattle">Cattle</span> <span data-condition="Others:Sheep">Sheep</span> Inspector from the side bar you will see a list of different categories of animals along with the numbers of animals in each category.  Click on the category to display all the animals on that screen</p>

    Ps yes the problem is there if it is the main text or in bullet point lists

    Before sinking a large amount of time in fixing, you might try updating to Patch 5 first, and re-upgrading a copy your RH10 project as a quick test.

    If that still doesn't fix stuff, you can download a copy of RH2019 (it's included in your RH2020 subscription), run RH2019 Classic to upgrade a copy of the RH10 project, then use RH2019 New UI to convert the fresh RH2019 Classic project. Then you can open the RH2019 New UI project in RH2020 and check it out. Path is something like this:

    RH10 -> RH2019 Classic -> RH2019 New UI -> RH2020

    Thanks for your reply Jeff, I have applied the patch and sadly that has not done anything.  Unfortuanetly it is not practical for me to go back to my RH10 project and reupgrade it as I have done a lot of work on it since.  I have just been leaving this problem to solve later and getting on with a big backlog.

    I also do not have control of what is download on my machine (I work for a big corporate) and I had quite a struggle to get them to let me install RH2020.

    What version of RH2020 are you running & what upgrade path did you take to get the RH10 project into RH2020? That can have a big impact on how the project comes through the process.

    I am on version 2020.4.173.  I just loaded the program and linked to the existing project - I think it said I was upgrading from Classic.  I appreciate my last version was embarassingly old but most things have upgraded ok.  I am just stuck on these conditional tags which I use extensively as it is built 3 differnet ways for different markets.  And I am a bit fed up with the random large bits of text that have appeared in certain topics but if I have to sort them manually I will.
