"Confirm File Replace" popup window

I have a small problem when I start RoboHelp and the second writer started before me. I/We get this popup window called "Confirm File Replace" and we know it has to do with a file the other writer is currently working on. However, we cannot find any explanation on Help Files or anywhere else regarding the choices this window offers. We already clicked one time on one of them and the file disappeared so we would like to know what each of these do.

The choices are:

- Leave
- Replace
- Merge
- Manual Merge

We can guess what these do but after messing up one file we don't want to take chances. Can anyone tell me what these will do?

Thanks in advanced!

Hmm. As luck would have it, I just spoke to someone here who is having the same issue. In the end, I recommended that he compare both versions of the topic to find the differences before deciding to replace the topic. He's going to print out both versions, compare them, and then update the RSC version of the topic appropriately.

RSC is detecting a difference between the latest version of the topic in source control and the version that is on your pc. "Leave" means keep the version you've got. "Replace" means replace your version with the latest one in source control. "Merge" and "Manual Merge" ought to come up only if you're dealing with different views/branches, or if you have somehow allowed multiple checkouts of the same file (not typical).

Usually, "Replace" is the correct response. If there's any doubt, make a backup copy of the file(s) in question before making your choice. (I am also a big believer in local backup copies of the RH project.)

If you haven't already done so, consider selecting the option "Get the latest versin of all project files when opening projects" in RH Tools/Options/Version Control.
