Question

Does RoboHelp Server provide version control for RoboHTML files?

If it does, how does it do it? and if not, then what are folks using to track and share all their HTM files that are created in RoboHTML and used on the RoboHelp Server?

Hi, Joe16Montana

  • RoboHelp Server 8 is an optional web server database application that provides the author with feedback reports on how users use your help. In this way, you can use the feedback to constantly improve your content. It also provides high levels of security and access to content if this is desired. Specifically, RH Server by itself, does not provide source control, RoboSource Control is used for that.
  • RoboSource Control is a free version control database application that comes with RoboHelp out of the box. It allows for multiple authors to work on the same projects - check in and check out files, etc.

So, these are mutually exclusive. Some folks use one or both, depending upon their needs.

There is a another post that has more info. I will try to find it and provide a link in another reply.

Thanks

I have a question. I am using Robohelp 9 client and RoboSource Control 3.1. I just installed RoboSource Control 3.1 two days ago. I loaded my project from inside Robohelp and it appeared to load my project to the database correctly. Yesterday I updated several topics, generated and published them to our website, all is looking good. Today I decide to test the restoring of a verson of that topic but when I opened up RSC an viewed the history there was only 1 version the initial load. I had used RSC two years ago and then it always showed the versions you could chose from but now there is only one version.

What am I doing wrong?

System attributes:

     Robohelp 9 client HTML

     RoboSource Contorl 3.1

     Robohelp Server v9.0

     Webhelp Pro 9.01.262

Hi, rwrich21

My compliments on listing your Release versions in your post. That's really helpful.

I cannot answer the specific question as to why the versions are not appearing. I'll ask my colleagues to move this post to the Robosource Control forum. There is often confusion about RoboHelp Server and RoboSource Control because they both involve a "database". However, they are in no way "connected at the hip" or do they interact with one another. They are mutually exclusive. In other words. You can (any many do) use both products, but they use different databases. RoboSource Control affects the "source" files of your project, while RoboHelp Server involves only the "output". Hopefully folks over in the source control forum can help you. BTW, you might also let them know whether you are using the built-in Access Database, or if you are using a more robust database like MS SQL Server or Oracle, etc.

Thanks
