Drag & Drop Links, Title vs Filename

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked previously, I did search but couldn't find what I was looking for. I'm a new RoboHelp user and fairly comfortable with the functions of the software, but haven't been able to find a setting for what I'm trying to do. This is also my first post in the support community 🙂

I'm currently adding some "Page Contents" boxes to the top of  some of my user guide pages. The contents boxes use links to page bookmarks within each page. I'm creating the links by dragging them in from the contents panel. The trouble is, when I drag in the links they display the filenames rather than the bookmark titles, and so they display complete with underscores. Is there a setting anywhere in RoboHelp to make it use the title rather than the filename when dragging and dropping links?

I've also attached some photos of what I'm doing, just in case I didn't describe it clearly!

In the first and second photos below, you can see I've used dropdown text with a twisty, and I've manually edited the contents list to replace the underscores with spaces. Ideally this is the way I'd like them to look.

Here are the bookmarks in the contents panel which, of course, contain underscores

and here's how they appear in the preview and output after I drag and drop them onto my document

Thanks,

Mikey

    When you drag a bookmark into the same topic, that seems to be the way it works. You can double click the link to correct it.

    Are these bookmarks all to headings? If they are it would be a lot easier to insert a mini toc. That would show like this in author view but in preview it would list the headings. Much easier.

    Easier still though is in a frameless output. The headings show like this on the right for the current topic.

    See my site for a live example. You can see it in this topic, then try some others. RH2020 Contents Panel (grainge.org). That requires no work. 🙂

    ah I see, I didn't look in the paragraph styles, only the hyperlink styles. Set the twisties up through the hyperlink style and it should work.

    I set it all up through the RH interface and it all works fine. Not sure why yours are on a p rather than an a?

    If you click on the 'Mini TOC (placeholder)' text the General panel will change to show the settings for the minitoc heading. There's a checkbox to make it collapsible, and when you tick it you get another to have it collapsed or expanded initially.

    If you want to add twisties, find the hyperlink style a.minitoc-caption in your stylesheet and define your twisties images there.

    Wow, that's way more simple than I was expecting!! Thank you! I've copied the twisty code from "a.dropspot" and changed it to work with p.minitoc-caption. The only problem with this (and it's a very minor one) is that the image doesn't change when the list is expanded. Not a deal-breaker at all, but my analyst brain is telling me I need to find out why. haha.

    p.minitoc-caption::before {
      vertical-align: middle;
      margin-right: 0.25rem;
      content: url('../images/Purple_Book_Closed.gif');
    }
    p.minitoc-caption.pressed::before {
      vertical-align: middle;
      margin-right: 0.25rem;
      content: url('../images/Purple_Book_Open.gif');
    ol.minitoc-list {
      margin-top: 0px;
      margin-bottom: 0px;
    }

    I hadn't even considered this option. It's definitely worth looking at, thank you.

    I've inherited the project from someone else and there have been a few people editing it since my predecessor left, so I'm trying to make it a little more consistent. Am I able to change the way the mini TOC looks in my stylesheets? If so this may very well be the way to go. Even better if I can make them automatically be a dropdown!

    Yes you can change the appearance. What you see on my site has been changed from the default. There was a post a month or so back about how, I will try to find it.

    Welcome - can you give us the exact point version of your copy of RH? That's something that should start any post to help people help you.
