Question

files do not appear in subfolder within RH7

RH7, .chm files

I have a project we use to show the database table defintiions for all our database tables. The html files used for this reside within a subfolder in the project (i.e. folder "Table_Definitions" within ProjectX).

I'm running into an issue where when I view the subfolder using the Topic List view in RoboHelp, none of the files show, making it appear the folder is empty. However, viewing the actual sub-folder through Windows Explorer shows the files are there, and if I try to import (reimport?) the files using the File | Import | HTML File option, RH asks me to verify that I want to override the existing files.

In other words, the files exist as verified through MS Windows, and RH itself seems to become aware of them if I try reimporting them into the project...but I cannot get it to show the files in the Topic List window within RH. I've tried refreshing, closing and reopening, moving to another folder and back, and nothing gets the files to appear.

Where this becomes a headache is that our links in the final .chm file are broken - you can search for the files and view them, but if you try to use the link page we've created to access them, none of the links work, and I'm wondering if there's some sort of bug or issue that is making RH think they don't exist as far as the links are concerned (ie because some part of RH doesn't think they exist in the Table Definitions subfolder) even though they do exist and can be found via search (or by trying to import them into the project).

Any ideas on fixing this?

Follow-up Question: Is there a way to manually move a file into a subfolder from within RH? For example, is there a way of selecting a file that's in the main project folder, and edit or move its location to a subfolder?

Absolutely! Just click the file in the Project Manager pod and drag it from the current folder to the new one.

This is probably most simply done by using the Topic List pod. Select multiple files there and drag from there to the folder over in the Project Manager to move them.

I wish I'd known of that method, I ended up having to manually move each file using the Project Manager tab and having to do them one by one!

Hi there

Have you tried rebuilding the .CPD file? Just close the project in RoboHelp, then hunt down and delete the ProjectName.CPD file. Then re-open the project. RoboHelp should note the CPD is missing and bake up a fresh one.

Rick,

I tried your solution and nothing changed. It did create a new .cpd file, but the files still don't appear on the Topic List view, and the links are still broken.

I did a Broken Links report, and it does appear that all the links are broken. RH (or at least a part of it) still seems to think the files aren't in the folder.
