Question

Has anyone had Robohelp 9 stop producing PDF Printed Documentation

Hi,

Exactly the same error messages as seen by PDFBoy (I think it was) a month ago, but my project is quite small. That thread gave no answers that apply.

TCS3.5, Robohelp 9, Windows XP, standalone Robohelp help project, nothing imported, no fancy additions. Webhelp generation still fine.

When trying to produce Printed Documentation in PDF format, the process seems to work until the last second, then error messages say that Word cannot save the file, PDF generation failed due to an internal error.

We tried reparing the MS Office installation in case it is something to do with Word. No joy.

Security settings are all at minimum, no messages from the antivirus app (Sophos).

A Word document is produced, but does not display its contents until it is saved. PDF can be produced from this Word document.

However, when you close the doc, Word doesn't seem to close. This means, for example, that you can't delete or move the doc file. You have to use the back door to close Word.

So it starts to feel more like a Word problem than Robohelp. Unless some Windows update has changed something reeeally subtle.

Anyone seen this or got any ideas how to solve this?

(Apologies to those who see the same query posted on the TCS forum, I got the impression different people check this site, so I thought I'd ask here too.)

FYI - In my instance I could generate a PDF from a smaller project. The project I was having problems with was generating a 700page+ word doc. We tested to see if it would fall over on another machine and it did generate correctly so we put it down to my machine being 'not up to it'.  No other replaies until you found the same issue!

Interesting.

I’m still experimenting (or will be on Monday) to see if I can find out more.

There may be a problem with one specific topic. I do hope it’s that simple…

I’ll let you (all) know what I find.

Cheers,

Heidi
