How does one go about fixing this error in RoboHelp 7.

HHC3015: Warning: An alias has been created to "FileName.htm#CSH_16" but the file does not exist

My project generates 500+ of these messages when I compile it.

Thank You.

To fix it, open your project alias file (projectname.ali) in Notepad and search for #. Once you find them just remove it and everything after that. For example if the entry was:

<alias name="IDH_VIEW_CMDS" link="UserGuide\Commands\CommandsView.htm#bookmark">

  </alias>

Change to:

<alias name="IDH_VIEW_CMDS" link="UserGuide\Commands\CommandsView.htm">

  </alias>

That should take care of this.

RH stuff: the compiler does not understand bookmark so don't insert one when generating ALI file....The issue still exist in RH 11.

Hi,

Thank you so much for the postings and the solutions. I have the same issue with Robohelp 2015.

Of course you would if you're dealing with CHMs - the technology have never been updated (& probably never will).

Hello!

Does anybody know whether this bug still exists with RoboHelp 9?

I get hundreds of these warnings, too, when I'm compiling a chm, although everything should be in its place.

Thanks very much!

Pete Lees has pointed out the bug is in the Help Compiler which is a Microsoft product, not Adobe. The compiler has not been updated for years and the view of most people is that it never will be now.

All help tools have to use the Help Compiler to generate a CHM so it will be the same whatever you use.

Ah, thank you, Peter!

That makes sense!

What a shame that Microsoft doesn't update the compiler, now it will continue to confuse RoboHelp-newbies such as myself.

The warning should be ignored if you are generating the context sensitive help for content linked from FrameMaker files.

My suggestion that this problem is related to a TOC selection problem was in error. For a project built entirely in 7.0.1, the TOC behaves correctly for a context-sensitive call.

Late to the party, but...

This is a bug in the HTML Help compiler, which, when it encounters a bookmark in the alias file, always reports an error — regardless of whether the aliasing is correct or not. Provided you've set up the topic file-to-ID aliasing correctly, the context call to the bookmark should work correctly.

How many topics you have in the project? Do you see bookmarks in the topics?

If you are importing FrameMake files, Are you importing the TOC from FrameMaker? Is there a mismatch between the pagination settings used during import of FrameMaker files and the styles used for generating TOC in FrameMaker book?

Vivek,

No I am not importing the book or the TOC; just source FM files.

Simply using my Heading styles.

I am resurrecting this topic because I have this error again.
I am seeing about 240 messages like the following one when I compile.

HHC3015: Warning:
An alias has been created to "<myfile path>.htm#CSH_16" but the file does not exist

The problem is that the file DOES exist at the path named in the error message, and the named anchor DOES exist in the HTML file... so why is the compiler flagging this? What is the workaround?

Thank You in Advance.
