How do I retain original image dimensions in the output?

Hi all! When I take a screenshot and insert it in RoboHelp, the size of the image appears bigger in the output than the original dimensions. How can I retain the original image dimensions in the output?

I just tried the snipping tool and grabbed part of a web page, then pasted that into a RoboHelp topic. It did not change the size.

    Hi Peter,

I am really grateful for your patience and the time you have invested in helping me out. I posted my query to Gemini and I got this answer:

This issue usually stems from a "handshake" problem between Windows high-DPI scaling and how RoboHelp interprets clipboard data. When you snip an image on a high-resolution monitor (e.g., 4K or a laptop with 150% scaling), the Snipping Tool captures the physical pixels, but RoboHelp may try to "fit" it based on a default 96 DPI setting, causing it to look much larger or smaller than intended.

Here is a breakdown of why this happens and how to fix it.

    1. High DPI Scaling Conflict

If your Windows display scaling is set to anything other than 100% (common on modern laptops), the Snipping Tool captures the image at the scaled resolution. RoboHelp often lacks the logic to automatically downscale that "high-density" image back to the logical size of your editor.

    • The Fix: Go to Windows Settings > System > Display. Check your "Scale and layout." If it is at 125% or 150%, try setting it to 100% just to test. If the paste size is then correct, you've confirmed it's a scaling conflict.

I have now changed the setting of 125% which was the recommended setting for my laptop to 100% as suggested by Gemini and now the size issue is resolved.
Once again I am really thankful for all your time and efforts!

    Thanks!

Try the same steps you were using in something other than your app. I suspect that will be OK.

I'm not clear on exactly when the size changes. It now sounds like you have your app open and you capture an image of an area, that image is larger than in the app, is that the case?

Originally you said "When I take a screenshot and insert it in RoboHelp, the size of the image appears bigger in the output than the original dimensions" which is not the same thing.

    So step by step...

    1. You have your app open and grab a screenshot of an area. Is that screenshot the size you want or is it larger?
If larger, just post back and ignore the rest of these steps.
    2. You save the desired size image to your project in the Assets>Images folder. Then you insert it into a topic.
Is the image still the desired size?
If NO, then create a new project with one topic and send it to me as earlier.
If YES, then take a screenshot of the image and the text above/below in RoboHelp and then generate an output and take the same screenshot. Post those here using the camera icon to insert them.

    Hi,

The first point you mentioned is the issue.

"You have your app open and grab a screenshot of an area. Is that screenshot the size you want or is it larger?"

    Thanks.

OK so how are you grabbing the image, what tool are you using? Also does that tool give you the image size and are the dimensions what RoboHelp shows in the image properties?

See this image. In the Insert Image dialog the image it is forced down to fit the space. The larger image below would look the same.

Is that what you are talking about? I thought you were referring to a difference between the topic in RoboHelp when you are working on a topic and in an output when you generate.

    Please clarify.

    Hi,

My issue is, the part of the screen that I capture gets blown up in proportions when stored as an image. I want this image to be of the same size as it appears on the screen of the UI.

If you reduce the percentage to fit it in the space, won't the image quality get compromised?
    Thanks!

Create a new project with just one topic and insert the same image. Do you get the same problem? If you do. If you do, then see the Contact page on my site and send the project as instructed there. Do make sure you include a link to this thread and please do not email the project direct.

Change the size of the RoboHelp window, I think the image will change to remain relative to the text. Please add the images I requested.

    Hi Peter,

I hope I am inserting the images as you have guided.

The UI whose part I have captured in the screenshot:

The image after clicking the camera button next to it:Kalyani360180101bnn_0-1766994726649.png

    The Responsive HTML Output:

I want the image with the font size as is on the UI. How do I achieve it?
    Thanks for your replies!

    Kalyani.

You haven't said which version of RoboHelp you are using. Please always start a thread with this information. Go to Help > About to get the full version number.

How are you inserting the images?

Do you mean larger relative to the text or its larger on the screen but still relative to the text?

Double click the image and you will see this panel.

    image.png

If the size numbers are grey, then RoboHelp is not doing anything to the image size. If they are black, then somehow you have edited the size. That said it should be relatively the same in both source and output.

Use the camera icon to show us screenshots of the images and surrounding text in both source and output.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for not mentioning the version. I am using RoboHelp 2022.6.34.
I am using Insert Image option to insert the image.

    Kalyani360180101bnn_0-1766741673506.png

The size numbers are black. And I guess, I framed the question in the wrong way.
Here is the original screen and the portion marked in red is the part I have captured and inserted as an image. The font size is much smaller here than what appears in the output.

    Kalyani360180101bnn_6-1766743384031.png

When inserted in RoboHelp, the image appears like this:

    Kalyani360180101bnn_3-1766742351205.png

In the output it appears like this:

    Kalyani360180101bnn_4-1766742411582.png

The sharpness of the image is gone and it appears blurred slightly. How do I retain the quality of the image in the output?

Or how do I resize the image so that it matches its dimensions on the real screen? I am using .png format for storing the images.

    Thanks very much, again!

    Kalyani.

If the sizes are black, then somehow the original size has not been retained. Click the arrow to the right of the sizes and the image should return to its original size and show the figures in grey.

Let me know if that works.
