I am wondering how the RoboHelp algorythum works when the Search function is used. It can serch the contents of topics, like headings, search the Key Words entered in the topic properties and serch using an index.

We are having problems with the search function. If we for example enter a key word in the topic properties will it no longer search the headings?

@Cat25794137bhif The thread at https://community.adobe.com/t5/robohelp-discussions/search-anomalies/m-p/11748980#M135360 was written by one of the developers. As you will see, the algorithm is complex but essentially all sorts of factors affect the ranking of the results.

A key word will boost the ranking but the other factors will not be ignored. They simply move the results up or down. Specifically to answer your question, from my understanding of the explanation, the heading results will not be ignored.

You will need to delve more into the link given by VikChand for how the algorithm works.

See if this topic and the other one linked in the dsicussion help with your general question about the search algorithm.

Adding a keyword in the topic properties won't stop the headings being used in the search algorithm. My understanding is these search keywords would typically be words that don't appear in the body of the topic but that your users are likely to search on when looking for the topic.

Hey, welcome back - maybe you'd care to elucidate us with your exact RH version and screenshots of what exactly is the problem? Also, have you tried it with the sample project? If the issue doesn't happen with it, then the problem will usually be in your project. On the other hand, if the sample has the same issue, then it could be a RH issue.
