How to change External Help File

Is it possible to change the External Help File?

We changed the name of our product from TESS to TS. It means removing all references to TESS in the .HLP file and replacing them with TS. I copied the original TESS.HLP and created TS.HLP, but cannot remove or edit the External Help File reference.

Is there a way to achieve this?

Chip away Brian. My Winhelp knowledge is getting progressively more sketchy by the day.

'Scuse me chipping in. Did JimRota follow the official procedure in renaming his project? If so, he should be alright; else, there's still trouble around somewhere.

Don't know what RH6 or 7 have so say about it but dear old X5 has a comprehensive Topic - 'Renaming Projects'.

I've never heard of RH inventing an External Help File so one must be referenced somewhere within your project. You haven't found it?

If I am not wrong - and I admit I may be as it has been 8 years of more since I used Winhelp - the external file is a help file that is completely separate from your project but you are linking to from somewhere inside your project. Renaming the files you mentioned will probably be OK if the link to this external file has also been changed.

I managed to remove the external help file reference by using Textpad to edit some of the additional files used by Robohelp

i.e., .hpr, .trk, .hpt, .rby, .kkw, .akw, etc.

I'm not sure which one did it, but when I shut down the project and re-opened it, the reference was gone...

Under "Dependencies" the first folder says "External Help Files" and inside this folder is a file called tess.hlp

I tried renaming it to the project I'm working one (i.e. ts.hlp), but it says you cannot use the same name for an "External Help File" as your project name...

I'm not clear on what an external help file is...

    Hi Jim

I'm not sure what you mean by "...but cannot remove or edit the External Help File reference.". Where are you seeing this reference?

    Cheers... Rick
